The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, located in the highlands of Michoacán, Mexico, is famous for being the winter home of millions of monarch butterflies that cluster on oyamel fir trees from November to March. The climate is cool year-round (40-70°F / 4-21°C), with the dry winter months offering the best butterfly-viewing conditions on easy hikes at elevations around 10,000 feet. During the rainy summer season (June to September), the forests turn lush and green, and you can explore local villages like El Rosario with fewer tourists.
